The University of California San Diego was recently ranked as the Second Best College in America according to money magazine, right behind Princeton, and ahead of Stanford. UCSD boasts top programs in medical programs, engineering, and business. It is located right in the heart of beautiful San Diego, right next to the Pacific Ocean. It is one of the most beautiful campuses in the world.

The Scripps Institution of Oceanography is a division of UCSD. Founded in 1903, it is one of the oldest and largest centers for earth and ocean science research in the world. It is home to numerous research vessels and shorebased laboratories. Hundreds of Ph.D.’s, engineers, researchers, and other established professionals in marine sciences operate the research institute.

San Diego, California is often referred to as paradise, and rightfully so! It is one of the most beautiful cities in all of the United States. Many people travel to San Diego for its pristine beaches, beautiful foliage, and many amusement parks. The city offers some of the best weather anywhere in the world, where it is always sunny, but never too hot. San Diego has many famous tourist attractions like Sea World, Lego Land, The San Diego Zoo, and so much more! It also boasts one of the top-ranked universities in the country. Once you arrive, you will never want to leave!

Group Ages and Makeup

  • Age Groups: 9-13, 14-17

  • Each program will be geared toward the level of difficulty each age group is capable of.  

  • Our programs are open to students of all genders.

  • The UCSD Program is a mixed program, meaning it consists of English-speaking students from various countries including many from the United States.

Education

The University of California San Diego program is a combination of English, Marine Biology, and STEM components.

  • English –Students will receive over 20 hours per week of intensive English training from certified ESL professionals. All activities during the UCSD Program are in English as well.

  • Marine Biology – Students will apply the scientific method to the field of marine biology through many experiments and hands on learning activities.

  • Environmental Engineering – Students will use their understanding of STEM concepts to solve problems in a marine environment.

  • Research – Students will participate in various activities where they must utilize the scientific method to test hypotheses, problem solve, and write conclusions based on their findings.

  • Nautical & Aquatic Skills – Students will gain competence in various aquatic activities and learn many useful nautical skills.

Accomodations

Lodging

Students will lodge at the UCSD dorms. Most rooms have 2 beds per with a shared bathroom. A few rooms are slightly larger with a shared bathroom. Participants will share a room with other participants of their same gender. The dorms are located on campus in a very safe neighborhood.

Meal Arrangements

Students will receive three buffet style meals in the UCSD cafeteria on campus each day. We can accommodate dietary restrictions if notified in advance.

Laundry

There are full-service laundry facilities at the lodging location that will be available to participants every 4 days.
